ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Argentina can enhance cooperation in agriculture sector to get mutually beneficial results, said Rodolfo Martin Saravia. Argentine Ambassador, addressing business community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), said Argentina could transfer modern technology to Pakistan for quality meat production since the country has strength in the field. He said Argentina could send its experts to help Pakistan reap its full potential in Halal meat sector.
Rodolfo said that his country could also support Pakistan with technology and expertise to increase per acre yield in agriculture. He asked businessmen to widely participate in Gulfood 2014 Expo being held at Dubai from 23. He added 50 to 60 Argentine companies are attending this year’s exhibition.
He said that his embassy would offer full cooperation in connecting Pakistani with Argentinean counterparts. He said Pakistani business community could witness Argentina’s food technology, machinery and food packaging and processing expertise at the expo.
Shaban Khalid, president of ICCI, said Pakistan has quality labor and good agricultural land, while Argentina has advanced technology and expertise. Therefore, both countries should explore joint ventures in agriculture field to complement each other, he said.
The ICCI President said that improving of quality, hygiene and packaging would increase the current gains five times.
He agreed to the envoy’s statement that Pakistan’s close proximity to the lucrative Middle East market remains untapped for export of food, dairy and meat products.
Since the cost of production in Pakistan is reasonable, several Middle Eastern countries are planning investment in the country’s agriculture sector.
Khalid said Argentina should explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s agriculture, livestock and other sectors, which offer lucrative returns to investors.
He said both countries should encourage private sectors’ connectivity, enhance exchange of trade delegations and organise exhibitions in each other country that will help in improving bilateral trade and economic relations. He said ICCI would also consider taking a business delegation to South American countries, including Argentina, to identify new areas of collaboration.
ICCI chief said the chamber would like to become partner with Argentine embassy for organising joint cultural events, which are the best way to promote people-to-people contact, which will ultimately lead to improving relations in all the potential areas of cooperation.
